Staffordshire University Psychology Society is a student-led community, dedicated to creating an inclusive, safe and supporting environment. We're driven by you, the students of the university, and we have big plans!
Are you just joining us at staffs this year? University can feel like quite a daunting place, so let us help you feel a bit less out of place. With cross-year socials and visiting speakers from the industry, not only can you make lifelong friends, but you can learn about what's to come, and what you can do afterwards!
Returning for a second year? This year is notoriously the hardest, but we've got your back! We have an SPSS SOS group, and several exam support groups and study sessions too!
Third year? Good job on getting this far! We're super proud of you, and we'll have third-year-project support groups, as well as easy ways to recruit participants through the society!
Masters, Doctorates and any other advanced qualifications? We welcome you! We're here to support you, and keep you feeling involved in the Psychology department. You might not be in the undergrad class anymore, but that doesn't mean you should be a stranger! We're planning several postgraduate groups for study, support and socials!
With three events a week, including academic study sessions, visiting speakers, movie nights, socials, debates and more, we want you to feel like an active and important part of the Psychology Department here at Staffs. We can give the students a louder voice, alongside our long-term goal of creating a National (yes, national!) Network of Psychological Societies. Our entire committee this year is built of course representatives, so we have the power to listen and make a change.
Talking of the committee, this year it's made up of neurodivergent, disabled and mature students! This is a massive achievement for us in terms of inclusivity, but let's not stop it there. The Psychology Society is welcome to any student, and we aim to make everyone feel involved and comfortable! We're planning several mature student meetups, where you can even bring your kids, because we know that childcare can be difficult. It'll also be a good opportunity for the children to make new friends!
We're also putting an emphasis on your mental health, as students. With monthly wellness walks and meditation sessions, we're helping you help yourself. Alongside our stress-managing pre-exam sessions and peer support systems, we want to build a community that is welcoming, non-judgmental and supportive, to ensure you have the best university experience possible!
We're really looking forwards to seeing you in the next academic year!
