Security on Campus

One of the many issues that are currently facing students on campus is that of Security, with many students often feeling unsafe on campus at night and during events at LRV and ember even with the security that is in place there, However, whilst current security staff are fantastic they are often uneducated on many current social issues that affect students at the university. As union vice president, I would aim to improve security for all students on campus by aiming to increase the amount of security at current events on campus, such as Flashback and Gobble whilst aiming to increase the education that current security has on a diverse range of social issues that are present on the campus today.

Cost on Campus

An important factor for students is how much items on campus cost, with many items in the union shops being overpriced in comparison to competitors that are located within a short walking distance from the campus, as well as drinks and food items within the venues being far more expensive for the average student on campus. With laundry prices for the students that live on being ridiculous compared to off campus facilities. As VP, I would aim to increase affordability for student across the campus, including outrageous prices for laundry for the students that live in university halls and housing.

Intergrating Nightline on Campus

Nightline is a free and confidential service, open at night and run by students for students. Based of five main principals; Confidentiality, anonymousness, non-judgemental, non-directional and completely non- advisory, with the statement “We Listen, Not Lecture”. Talking to students on campus, this service seems like it is both necessary for students, especially Freshers’ in a new environment. As your Union VP, I would work with the university and nightline to our students on campus, providing a beneficial night time service for students who just need to talk to someone.

Improving Facilities Access

Despite efforts made by previous officer teams, the large majority of campus facilities close at 9pm, leaving the vast majority of us without access to equipment essential for completing our work before the final deadline. As your Vice President, I will work with the university to push this to universal 24/7 access for all buildings, ensuring that students have access, whenever they need it.

Promoting Unity and Community on Campus

As your Vice President, I will facilitate the growth of the current on-campus community, bringing the existing student movements and campaigns to the forefront of student voice and encourage all groups to work together for new and exciting events and campaigns that aim to not only improve university life on campus but, to the communities that exist around the various campuses as well.
