Hi. My name is Lina. I have been a part of the Amateur Dramatics society for the past two years and I have seen it develop in ways that you could not imagine. From winning the Phoenix Award to being the society of the month, Am-Dram has grown both in numbers and in pride.
The mission of theatre is to change, to raise the consciousness of people and open them to multiple possibilities; the possibility of growing, of developing and opening something in you, that you never thought you had. A stage is a magical place, to enter it is to be ushered into a sacred area of your imagination. I believe art is a feeling. We create art because we need to react; react in love, react in anger, in hatred, in joy, in fear. I, therefore, call to every member of our society to contribute to the artistic creation because we are the community of people who feel.
Theatre provides a universal language; one which each person, of every culture, is able to understand. It has not only instilled a thirst for language in me, but it also taught me what it means to be truly passionate about one, singular thing. That is exactly what this society did for me. It created a safe space, full of people who are just as eager to perform as I was. It gave me a family which I never want to lose. If chosen for the communications officer, I will continue to expand on this feeling. I will be able to unlock the potential of members; enable them to confidently expand, both as actors and as directors.
Therefore, my aim is to enable all members of the society to become directors, your ideas are important; you create the society, without you, none of these possibilities would have been realised. The input of society members will be my number one priority, I want to hear what you have to say. As Bryant McGill says, “One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say.” Am-Dram is a society full of individually incredible people, my aim is to enable each member to grow more confident in their art and as leaders.
