Candidate for the position of LGBTQ+ Network - Network Manager - LGBT

Leonard Stuart

Hi, my name’s Leonard Stuart, but most of you will know me as Len. This year I am running for chair of the LGBT+ Committee. I’m running because I believe that I am the best person for the job, and I believe that in the position I will be effective in aiding and facilitating Network activities and interests.

I have experience working for the network; in my role as communications officer, I have become familiar with how the network runs and operates, as well as expanding my knowledge of the LGBT+ community. I regularly participated in the weekly events, such as the friday variety sessions and gender club. I feel this is important for the role of committee chair as these events form the backbone of the network; they allow for learning opportunities and communication between members of the society. Being a member of the committee has allowed me plenty of opportunities to grow as a leader. I have helped organise several events for the network including: The International transgender remembrance walk and LGBTQ history month events. I have had the pleasure of delivering several presentations and public lectures on behalf of the network, including topics such as the Stonewall Riots and the Holocaust memorial event with the Students Union and the University. I believe these things will be the key to my success as committee chair.

Below are my aims and goals for the network as chair;

I wish to increase the number of one off events we hold as a network. I also wish to make sure all events held by the network are inclusive and accessible for all members of the network.

The creation of a social event that is less formal than our current monday / friday meetings. This would provide a stress free, safe environment for members to unwind - something the network does not yet provide.

I want to increase membership and activity within the network - through new members in the new academic year as well as attracting current students through increased advertising and awareness.

I believe these aims will help to improve upon the safe and positive community we have at the university. In addition to these aims, I will aid members of the committee and the network with their own personal projects, as this will help to expand the scope and variety within the networks events and learning opportunities.

Thank you for reading my manifesto. Please feel free to get in touch with me to ask any questions you may have at;
