Hi there! I’m Jamie, and I will be running for Finance officer of the LGBT+ Network! I want to be your finance officer as I believe I can be a upstanding and reliable member of the committee, using the experience and knowledge I have gained from my previous sub-committee role as well as actively expanding my own skill set while in the position to be the best I can be for the people I am representing.
Here's what I stand for:
Inclusivity - I want to continue creating a welcoming and friendly environment for our network. A central part of the network is the friendships and community created by the people within - this is something that has become very important to me over the last year and I hope to encourage a similar environment for the network in my role as a committee member. I will also stand by allies, BAME students and those the LGBT+ community has not been welcoming to - as a network we should be a safe haven for all people who wish it.
Fun - I quite like fun! In addition, I also plan to expand on the social side of the LGBT+ network by creating more events. This has always been part of my mandate - the reason I was on sub-committee is because I wanted to put on a trans-friendly swimming event. I plan to put on more of these events in my role as finance officer.
Engagement - I know first hand that the best ideas for the network come from its members. As a committee member, I feel it is crucial that I facilitate the ideas and events that the members of the network wish to put on. We are nothing without our fellow LGBT+ comrades, and it would be silly of me to ignore their collective experiences, knowledge and wisdom.
Responsability - As a committee member, I have a duty to be the best I can be for the people I am representing; weather that be in my duties in the financial aspect of the role, or just as a representative of the network. I will strive to be an officer that this network can trust and rely on.
