Hey all, it's Chip.
I can only apologise to this year's first-years on behalf of the society. As many Staffs Poker Society veterans will tell you, this is the poorest it has been run since it was formed in 2013. As I'm sure you've all seen after my frequent contact with Matt and the Union, which caused more drama than we'd hoped for, I've been trying to get things back on track.
Why should I manage it?
- I have been a part of society for 2 years, so I know how it should be ran and what format our play follows
- In my time playing poker, I have revised many poker rule books for different game types and understand the rules and why they are needed
- I am friendly and punctual
- I work at Verve, so can talk to the manager about perks or deals Verve could start offering for when we play at the Venue e.g. drinks/food offers
- I have played poker from home games to Casinos
If I become manager, changes I will bring include:
- Starting on time, at 18:00, every night
- Encouraging cash games after tournament games
- Introduce the program I created to manage payouts, blinds and other stats perfectly every night. This will fix issues we had previously with payouts being illegally distributed and blinds not being properly managed
- Introduce a rule-book (also already created) to properly settle the debates surrounding bad etiquette vs non-legal actions and properly enforce law surrounding poker without a gambling licence, which was previously not followed on a frequent basis
- A more friendly, less authoritative leadership style
- Teach new players how to play and deal properly, to make play more enjoyable and effective for all
