I am running for Finance Officer for the second time. After working in this position for the last year, I have become very dedicated to the society. Since September I have worked with the rest of the committee to plan, organise and run rehearsals and shows for both A Night of Variety in November, and Fate.

Along with being in one of the casts for Fate, I have been working as Stage Manager and have worked with the Directors to decide what props, set, costumes etc. will be needed, and coming up with ideas for how they could be used creatively in the play. Working as Stage Manager has also made me realise what I want to do as a career in the future, and I would like to continue working in Stage Management and Backstage on projects with the society next year.

Being a part of the Amateur Dramatics Society over the last two years has helped me in so many ways, including improving my confidence, social skills and self-esteem, being in AmDram really has changed my life for the better (that sounds cheesy I know, but it’s true). When I joined the society in my first year, I was incredibly shy and didn’t have much self-belief, to the extent that the first time I performed with AmDram, I almost backed out before I had to be on stage at the last minute (literally at the last minute, I had to be on stage less than a minute, and almost backed out), but then, along with many other occasions in the last two years when I’ve had problems that involved AmDram, my course and my personal life, it was the members of the society who helped me through. If it wasn’t for Amateur Dramatics, I’m pretty sure I’d have dropped out of university (that sounds dramatic, but again, it’s true). I would like to continue my work on the committee next year, in the hopes to not only continue developing myself, but to also help others grow in the ways that I have from being in this society.

If I am voted in to continue working on the committee next year, I will continue to be as (if not more) dedicated to helping to run this society. I would like us to continue putting on performances and events throughout the year, such as variety shows and plays. I would also want us to hopefully collaborate with other societies and universities, in performing for their events, and working with them to put on events.
