#AshForStaffs

After three years of studying Psychology, I have finally reached the end of my patience with Staffordshire University. I feel that I have been let down, cheated and betrayed. And Now It's Time For Change!

Parking & Commuters

For years parking has been an issue on campus with it set to get worse! The University not only sell more parking permits than spaces they also have revealed no plan to ever fix the parking problems.

My solution however, is to create a system of organising every student with a parking permit into a reserved parking bay (Much like what the Chief Executives have). By organising course timetables into blocks it effectively means The End Of The 1 Hour Lecture/Seminar. No longer will we Commuters have to face a commute longer than the lecture we came in for. Which also means that students will get more full free days which offers flexibility in how we organise ourselves, weather that's a part-time job, career commitments or even a trip to the beach. Imagine what you could do with a Four Day Weekend. The possibilities are endless.

Bursaries & Grants

When I came here 3 years ago I received a £1000 “Kickstarter” grant from the University. I mainly spent this money on Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, food from Ember & Verve and a variety of books. This Grant helped make my student experience much better and yet the University reduce the size of grants and bursaries year-on-year even though they receive in excess of £100 Million each year. I for one feel Cheated knowing that I pay £9250 each year for a few Glorified powerpoints. It's time the University put OUR TUITION FEE Back into bursaries and Grants instead of building themselves extra office space (BUT WE CAN GET ONTO THAT LATER!)

Mental Health

Unfortunately, Year-on-Year students are pushed the edge by the stresses of life. Everyone understands the importance of mental health and yet not enough is done to combat debilitating issues. If elected I will be pushing the University to create a clear strategy on addressing mental health issues. The University also needs to step up and hire more on-site mental health specialists to help students who are currently suffering in silence. We all have demons that we have to face. But there is no reason why we must face them alone, Together We Are Stronger.

24/7 Campus/Crime On Campus

The past few years have seen the University slowly move towards a 24/7 Campus. However still more can be done to ensure the University doesn't stop moving in the right direction. The benefits of a 24/7 Campus include Extra Security which will be beneficial in combating the crime on campus. The crime on campus reached such an alarming level last year that I was advised Not To Sell Poppies for Armistice day on certain parts of Campus in case something happened. We should all be free to Feel Safe on campus and not have to fear. If elected I will push to increase the security presence on campus for a Safe and Secure Society

The Catalyst Betrayal

This year marked the closure of Brindley the beginning of “The Catalyst”. The Catalysts original purpose was to be a place designed to meet the needs of all students. And yet, the Chief Executives wish to use YOUR TUITION FEE to create OFFICES for themselves. In a time when we are all struggling financially, the University CHOOSES Office space for themselves over investing in Bursaries, Security, Grants or Parking.

YOU ARE BEING CHEATED. YOU ARE BEING BETRAYED. AND NOW IT'S TIME FOR CHANGE.

If elected I will fight to ensure that we students are no longer taken for granted. It's time to get the University to #putStudentsFirst #AshforStaffs
