Wild Staffs - Going wild for wildlife

A new wildlife project on campus is changing the way we look after our stoke campus.

Wild Staffs Planting

As part of the Uni's Sustainability Challenge, VP Carter F. and the SU submitted a project proposal to create space for wildlife on campus. Now we've teamed up with other nature-based projects to make the Stoke campus a haven for bugs, bees and trees.

As part of the University's Sustainaiblity challenge, the SU put forward a proposal to create wildflower beds around the SU. The University Sustainability Group, a team of leading staff from across the uni, were really excited by the number of dififerent biology and nature based projects that were put forward. To ensure maximum project impact and to simplfiy planning, the proposals were combined with the help of students and staff to make a clear plan.

Now those plans are being put into place, with tree and hedge planting taking place across the Stoke Campus over the last few weeks. Students and staff, led by Dr. Eleanor Atkins and the head of grounds, Andy Warham have been working on their Wednesday afternoons and have just started the next phase of the project which is the creation of a wildlife garden for students and staff to enjoy. With work on a pond just starting, there are still plenty of chances for Students to get involved. You don't need any expirience, just some footware and trousers that you don't mind getting dusty.
