“It is so important to stand out from the crowd. One way you can do this is by being an active member of a STEM society. Employers look for graduates who can communicate well with others; work effectively in a team; present their ideas and findings; solve complex problems; manage their time; make decisions and take on new responsibilities. Being in a society involves exercising and developing these kinds of soft skills, giving a store of examples to draw upon in your applications.” (Gradcracker ,2021).
“Each university typically has hundreds of clubs and societies that students can join. These give you something extra to talk about in your CV and job interviews, especially if you take more of an active role in the society. In fact, 17% of employed people in our recent graduate survey said that extra-curricular activities they took part in directly helped them get a job.” (UCAS,2021).
Who can join?
Anyone is welcome regardless of course subject or level. Don't be shy pop in and see our commitee members for more information or send us an email. We would be more than happy to meet you and discuss what this society is all about.
If you are an individual motivated and ambitious consider joining us, being an active member of a society is great on CVs and applications but actively leading and shaping a society looks even better!
