As a committed advocate for Student welfare and empowerment, elected IWW Student Workers General Organizer for the UK & Ireland with an overwhelming 95% vote, I, Connor Sloan, seek your support for the role of Student Union Officer. Having experienced the challenges of disadvantaged circumstances myself, I understand the hardships many Students face. I dedicate this manifesto to addressing them.
Affordability and Finances
Early Start Scheme - Addressing food insecurity by offering affordable breakfast options five days a week, ensuring that no Student starts their day on an empty stomach.
Affordable Essentials Campaign - Restructuring Campus amenities to prioritize affordability, reducing the financial burden on Students by offering essential goods at minimal prices.
Student Credit Plan - Empowering Students financially with credit accessible via Student ID Cards, facilitating use of Campus amenities without financial strain.
Support and Empowerment
Student Empowerment Workshops - Engaging Students through informative workshops and resources designed to promote financial literacy, enhance tenancy rights awareness, and promote understanding of workplace equity.
Campus Wellness Network - Enhancing mental and physical well-being support for all Students, especially for those with caring responsibilities, and those facing academic, workplace, or tenancy disputes.
Equitable Workplace Advocacy - Advocating for fair employment practices and equitable treatment of Student workers both on and off campus.
Accountability and Independence
Financial Transparency Challenge - Demanding drastically improved financial transparency within the University, providing Students the ability to scrutinize spending and ensure accountability.
Union Solidarity Project - Strengthening ties with recognized Trade Unions to amplify both Staff and Student voices in advocating for collective rights.
Union Autonomy Initiative - Seeking greater decision-making autonomy for the Student Union to better serve and advocate for Student interests.
With unwavering dedication, I commit to building a Campus where every Student is supported, empowered, and valued.
In Solidarity,
Connor Sloan
