Inclusivity
Improving the university experience for students with protected characteristics. Many students at Staffordshire university have traits that fall under protected characteristics under the Equality act, yet I have still heard and experienced firsthand our rights not being honored. I wish to make the campus more inclusive to all those who attend it. I will do this through proposing policy changes to support marginalized students, and using more inclusive language throughout the University.
Accessibility
Creating better access to university facilities and buildings. Many of the buildings on campus are older and are difficult to navigate. I am a disabled student and have found myself struggling to attend lectures in certain buildings due to the distance of lifts or no lift access whatsoever. I would push to have more accessibility wayfinding around campus, such as plans for ramps, elevators, and support services for disabled students.
Clarity
Making the University more transparent with students and fostering trust. After news of the University laying off staff and making budget cuts, the student population felt very out of control and disempowered. I would work toward creating a more open dialogue with the University to the students about their plans so that students may have a louder voice in regards to decision making. I will do this by advocating for more open communication and pushing for publishing of financial reports.
