VGU (Video Games Union) - Communications Officer
The Communications Officer supports the club or society by keeping members, other committee and the Union updated about activities and plans. The comms officer is crucial in creating a community amongst your members and will also be involved in marketing the group to other students, in person and online.
The role of the Communications Officer is to support the Manager in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Student Group. Given these responsibilities, the Communications Officer often acts as an information and reference point for the Manager and other committee members: clarifying past practice and decisions; confirming legal requirements; and promoting the activities of the Student Group.
Main duties of the Communications Officer
Liaising with the Manager to plan meetings, events, socials and activities
Taking overall responsibility for the submission of required documentation to the Students’ Union or other partners, within the required time constraints
Keep in regular contact with the Student Engagement Team, updating them with activities, challenges or successes from the Student Group
Working closely with the SU Marketing Team to promote and develop the image of the Student Group
Planning and Managing Activities to support recruitment to the Student Group
Responding to all Student Group Member correspondence
To operate your group with a mind to the environmental, ethical and sustainability aims of the Students’ Union, thinking about your group’s impact on the planet

VGU (Video Games Union) - Finance Officer
The Finance Officer works closely with other members of the Committee and the Union to safeguard the group’s finances. Key aspects of the role include, promoting recruitment to help reach group targets, budgeting for events and activities, and working to find external funding sources or sponsorship. The finance officer should monitor group spending to keep it in line with the yearly finance plan.
The Finance Officer has a watchdog role over all aspects of financial management, working closely with other members of the Management Committee to safeguard the organisation's finances. Given these responsibilities, the Finance Officer typically acts as an information and reference point for the Manager and other committee members: clarifying financial implications of proposals; confirming legal requirements; outlining the current financial status; and retrieving relevant documentation.
Main duties of the Finance Officer
Overseeing and managing budgets, accounts and financial statements, supported by the Student Engagement Team
Keep in regular contact with the Student Engagement Team, updating them with plans for expenses, purchases and the Student Group balances
Ensure that all accounting activities are managing in accordance to current Students’ Union policy and procedures
Develop and implement a fundraising strategy, if deemed appropriate by the committee

VGU (Video Games Union) - Society Manager
The Manager is a key role on any Committee. They must ensure that the Club/ Society is participating during meetings and events; that the group is complying with relevant rules, policies and laws, and that all members are able to be involved in the group’s activities.
The Student Group Manager is a key role on any voluntary Management Committee. The Manager must ensure that the Group has full participation during meetings/events, that all relevant matters are explored and that effective decisions are made and carried out.
The role of a Manager is time consuming, with work between meetings, external representation of the organisation, and work with staff. Managing a large student-led organisation requires diplomatic and leadership skills of a high level.
Main duties of the Manager
To hold overall responsibilities for the operations, activities and financing of the Student Group
To manage the Committee and any Sub-Committee to fulfil the purpose of the Student Group, always maintaining high levels of Equality and Diversity
Keep in regular contact with the Student Engagement Team with plans for the Student Group and members
To ensure that the policies and procedures of the Students’ Union are always adhered to and in all activities and events
To represent the Student Group, on occasion, as it’s spokesperson at, for example, Student Council or local forum meetings
To promote the mission and values of the Students’ Union at all times
To lead the development of continual student-led organisations, through planning and organisation
