Proud to be Staffs Story: Janet Lawton
A proud student told us...
'Jan is an exceptional member of staff, individual, mentor and friend to everyone that she meets. She goes above and beyond in her classes and lectures to ensure that all the content is covered to an exceptional standard, that all queries are addressed and that everyone is satisfied. She will take time out of her day to individually help students with their struggles, regardless of not being their lecturer for that subject. She will offer resources and support to the extent of individually checking up on every single one of her students. I have yet to see a lecturer who aims for her entire class to be able to earn amazing marks in their assignments and offers them the extent of expertise and support that Jan does. She records her lectures and extends all her feedback to support those who are ill, wanting to look back on previous material or struggling. As a mentor, Jan will go out of her way for students to help them network, find connections for placements, and support them academically and personally. I have personally yet to see a time she has not signposted a student to the correct place and resolved their issues. As a person Janet is wonderful. She is cheerful, bubbly, never lets her emotions get the better of her regardless of the situation and students can see this. She supports students who come to her with every single good cause they have and cheers everyone on. She truly cares about the University, her students and everyone around her. Lecturers like her make me Proud to be Staffs and I can't imagine the University without her. She's made such an amazing impact on everyone and I'll be sad to see her take her short leave for her surgery but wish her all the best and a fast recovery. Thank you Jan. You deserve the recognition.'
