Proud to be Staffs Story: Jodie Cartner
Graduate | School of Health, Science and Wellbeing
"Being a adult nursing student is challenging in itself. However, due to COVID-19 it as become extremely more challenging. As a student you feel at times in the way. When I was on placement, I felt exhausted under-valued and isolated in the area I was placed in. A nurse’s wellbeing is generally put on the back burner but Jodie must have seen that I was at a low point. She came over to me and simply said “ Hi I’m Jodie nice to meet you how are you today” Those simple few words lifted my soul I felt noticed and part of society. From that conversation we had everything we learnt at uni about values and working in a team Jodie did. No matter what Jodie faced in her personal life she came into work with a smile. She takes her time to introduce herself to each patient and ensures they are valued. Amazingly Jodie learnt me excellent nursing interventions. She spoke in a polite manner at all times. Yet above all of this I was taken back when just the smallest gesture or conversation with a patient made all the difference. And I asked her where did you learn this from and she said “Staffordshire University” so that’s why I’m proud to be staffs and so is Jodie "
We hope that you are as proud of your story as we are. However, if you would prefer the Students' Union to no longer display you story on our website, please email union@staffs.ac.uk and a member of our friendly team will be happy to help.
