For providing fantastic academic support and guidance.
Proud to be Staffs Story: Kay Flannagan
Support Worker | Student and Academic Services
"Kay became my support worker later on in my first semester at university but she has proved invaluable to me during my time with her. I was diagnosed late on with dyslexia and Kay has helped me with planning out academic assignments and draft plans because I had no idea this was part of my ongoing issues with dyslexia. Kay is the most patient person and even during a panicked bank holiday weekend she contacted me on Teams, calmed me down and worked through the problems I was having. Kay is adaptable (I am disabled) and goes out of her way to help, without Kay I would not be getting the amazing grades I have so far. Kay helped me so much last semester with one particular assignment I was struggling with, but with her gentle coaxing I managed to get the semester finished when there had been times I didn’t foresee it happening. Kay helped me get to grips with referencing tools (Refworks ) by sending training manuals and YouTube videos to me along with the Staffordshire Harvard referencing system amongst other academic articles. I know moving forward with the support, advice and calmness Kay brings to our sessions I will be able to finish the next semester (September) without too many meltdowns. If you need and receive academic support I couldn’t recommend Kay enough, I would of left my course at time’s if I didn’t have this lady’s support. "
