Proud to be Staffs Story: Kay Gethin
Student | School of Justice, Security and Sustainability
"From her initial expression of interest, Kay displayed an appetite to represent her peers on a level that we don't always see from some of our representatives. She got in touch to fill a vacant role, sharing her drive to give her peers a voice and even sharing her self-reflected areas for personal development! This year Kay has faced significant personal challenges that affected her ability to be physically present and engage with her course, but she has slogged away nonetheless - approaching those in her department through our Rep Hub system, group-chats and via email and Teams. Add into Kay's work that this year the Law Dept was merged with Business - meaning that Kay had a much larger group of people to represent in subjects she wasn't familiar with - Kay absolutely worked her hardest to push ideas and raise issues. The end of the year was bittersweet for Kay, as she achieved a huge "win" for her school of JSS (not just Law & Business) as the University committed to online exams being an option across the board for future years. Unfortunately, as we have all experienced with blended learning, the divisive nature of online vs in person learning and assessment meant that the reaction to this win wasn't as positive or constructive as you would expect - but Kay shouldn't let this detract from a year of hard work that has really made a difference to her students. Thank you!"
We hope that you are as proud of your story as we are. However, if you would prefer the Students' Union to no longer display you story on our website, please email union@staffs.ac.uk and a member of our friendly team will be happy to help.
