" Before I was offered a place at the university, I spoke to Louis who explained what the course was all about, which cemented my decision to come to the university. Louis has gone above and beyond in helping the cohort out and is always available if you have an academic or a personal issue. As a mature student, I was worried I would be out of my depth, but Louis assured me this would not be the case and all through the summer of 2021 Louis and his colleagues set up Teams meetings for students to join to ask questions etc. None of the other universities friends applied to have this experience. Louis makes the workshops enjoyable and provides students with a safe place to ask questions they are unsure about. I have mental health issues as well as dyslexia and as soon as Louis received my LSS he sent it to my academic mentor and any other academic who would be involved in my journey this year. Without this support, I would not be able to survive a month, let alone more than halfway through my first year. Louis must be one of the most patient people I have come across in academia, but he also has a down to earth fairness and a great sense of humour which makes the journey enjoyable, he is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his subject area, and he clearly wants all his students to succeed. "
