Do you remember what inspired you to choose your career path as a child?

For many, early exposure to different fields can make a world of difference, especially when it comes to discovering passions for future careers. As technology continues to shape our world, it's crucial to introduce young minds to its exciting possibilities.

That's exactly what the Computing Society did when they attended the Clarice Cliff Co-Op Academy Careers Fair, engaging with KS3 students and sparking their interest in the tech world.

Students from years 3 to 6 had the chance to explore various aspects of technology, with many showing enthusiasm about pursuing careers in gaming. Popular titles like Fortnite, Roblox, and Minecraft were mentioned as inspirations for those interested in game programming. Others were captivated by robotics, drawing inspiration from the recent Robot Wars event and dreaming of using robots in fields like medicine.

It was clear that the event left a lasting impression, with students even taking the opportunity to explore interactive screens that introduced them to different tech career options. Year 6 girls were particularly excited to share their experiences with a recent AI project they had worked on, highlighting the growing interest in artificial intelligence.

The Computing Society hopes to encourage more students - both boys and girls - to explore the world of technology, break down the barriers of digital illiteracy, and find hobbies that align with their passions.

The academy itself was incredibly welcoming and supportive, expressing their joy at seeing students so excited about coding, robotics, gaming and hacking and following the event, shared a Thank You letter with the society committee.

Society Manager Aurelia tell us "Through community events like this, we hope to foster the next generation of tech innovators and help them discover the endless opportunities in the world of technology... perhaps encouraging the next generation of students at the University of Staffordshire!"
