The Engineering Society has been making waves recently, delivering a pair of high impact events designed to connect students with real world expertise and cutting edge innovation.
In a brilliant move to bridge academia and industry, the society partnered with the Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET) and Protolabs, bringing in professionals who are right at the forefront of modern engineering. These collaborations resulted in two engaging speaker sessions that explored a variety of specialist areas, including robotics, sustainability, product development, and 3D printing.
Students were given a unique opportunity to gain insight into current industry practices and hear firsthand about the evolving challenges and solutions in today’s engineering landscape. From understanding how robotics are transforming manufacturing, to discussions around sustainable design, each talk offered a rich mix of knowledge sharing, skills development, and career inspiration.
But the learning didn’t stop at listening.
Following the talks, students got hands-on and brought theory into practice by 3D printing their own designs, transforming concepts into physical models. It was an exciting way to complement the discussions with real, tangible outcomes, and further deepened their understanding of digital manufacturing processes.
The success of these events reflects the Engineering Society’s commitment to offering meaningful, career focused opportunities that empower students to explore their interests and develop valuable professional skills.
Whether you're passionate about innovation, eager to connect with industry experts, or simply want to build something cool, the Engineering Society is the place to be.
