07/10 - Board of Governors was this week! Most of the discussions were around how the university is going to be reshaped over the coming months, and I was present to ensure that none of the proposed changes would impact the student experience!
14/10 - The Celebrating Staff Success awards were last week, and the Students' Union was invited out to present our student's choice awards to members of staff. Well done to Precious and Leah, who did a great job presenting and handing out the awards; all the staff members loved our part! I also engaged in discussions about how we should adhere to Twitch's TOS when putting on student events so as not to put anyone at risk.
21/10 - Last week, I attended three different Course Monitoring meetings! My role in these meetings is to ensure that all the feedback given to academics and staff has been actioned upon over the last year and to call out where it hasn't. I also went to the Gundam build day on the London Campus, as our Rolling Bones Society has secured sponsorship by Bandai Namco!
28/10 - Last week, I attended the NUS Lobby day at the Houses of Parliament with Leah, where we met with Stoke's Local MP Gareth Snell. This was so we could push for "No More Guarantors" in the upcoming Renters Rights Bill proposal. Lots of students each year are challenged when they try to find student accommodation as they do not have any/adequate guarantors, and can sometimes be asked to pay several months pay up front, negatively impacting their finances for the entire year! As a result, we, as officers, wanted to push for a change to abolish the current Guarantor system whilst maintaining a cap on what deposits a landlord can charge.
