Thank you to: Kota Brown
Student | Amateur Dramatics Society
Kota is a member of our Amateur Dramatics Society who has volunteered their own time to learn lighting and tech skills in LRV in order to support the society’s productions.
A proud community member has told us:
" Kota has already put this knowledge to use to not only create advanced lighting presets ready for AmDram's own shows but also to implement workflows to expand the capabilities of the venue. Kota learned all this while putting together a rendition of Meant To Be Yours from the musical Heathers, which showcased incredible emotional and vocal range.
Kota also has an incredible workload and time demands, and is heavily involved with supporting the committee of the Life Drawing Society. He is also the Subject Rep for Games Art, a role in which he has quickly become one of our most active and passionate defenders of students' rights and needs.
In the context of the AmDram Society, Kota has taken on the role of wardrobe and costume manager for the May production of Jekyll & Hyde. He has already been heavily involved in multiple design undercurrents and visual metaphors that have greatly improved the overall thematic coherence of both shows and, since the two dates are different interpretations of the same show, he has effectively done this twice over. He has gone to great lengths to understand the specific fashion and social trends of late-1880s and early-1890s England, particularly the transition between the two, and has worked with actors' developing interpretations of their characters to guide designs for costumes that in many cases he will be making by hand.
Kota is also the only singing-role actor to appear in both show dates, playing a role which has been expanded to include new songs and scenes that would not have flourished without his input. With the musical consisting of over forty songs across four acts, sessions are necessarily dedicated to rehearsal - which means these contributions have all been entirely additional to normal engagement with the society. It's students like Kota that make me proud to be Staffs, and it's a great honour to be able to work with him."
Thank you Kota for making a positive difference for students here at Staffs.
We hope that you are as proud of your story as we are. However, if you would prefer the Students' Union to no longer display your story on our website, please email union@staffs.ac.uk and a member of our friendly team will be happy to help.
