This regularly updated page will help you track what Leah has been up to in October...
07/10 - This week we kicked off filming with Staffs TV for "What's on, Staffs?", our student news show - a project I've already briefly mentioned planning for in previous updates. Filming went really well, and we can't wait to get the episode out to everyone! We've already started planning for the next episode with hopes to get something out for Halloween.
14/10 - I got to go up on the stage at the Celebrating Staff Success awards, presenting the student nominated awards from our We Are Staffs nominations. In what feels like a difficult time with recent news, it felt rewarding to be able to reward staff for the crucial work that they've put in through the year - especially when we got to talk about the stories behind those nominations!
21/10 - During this week, I have continued supporting a group of students through a timetable-related issue - attempting to find some short-term solutions so that none of them are disadvantaged. I also had the opportunity to sit in on the meetings for the GG and Tavern events. It was really fun seeing what some of our student groups have been up to!
28/10 - I travelled down to London this week for the NUS Lobby Day, representing the student voice in the upcoming Renters Reform Bill by advocating for an amendment supporting the abolishment of guarantors and looking for support in pushing for a cap on deposit costs. Student homelessness is an ongoing problem, and the hope is that the amendment will remove one of the major barriers. We met the local MP, Gareth Snell, and had a productive discussion about what he could do to support the national student voice.
