Some more proud students told us...
"Pokémon society has provided students with a community they may never have had access to before. Many members talk about how they lacked friends who had the same interest in Pokémon as them, until they came to uni and met with the members of pokesoc. Now they feel like a part of something bigger, and that sense of camaraderie has helped first years adjust to uni life and supported them through their studies. The committee are the core reason why Pokémon society is as popular as it is — they raised the member count to over 80 and are able to keep members returning to sessions every week. Many genuine friendships have formed thanks to the committee making the society a safe space for everyone."
"Pokemon Society has had an incredible impact on my university experience. Growing up I never really had friends who liked Pokemon as much as I did, and since joining this society, it has introduced me to loads of wonderful people that I now can't imagine my life without. I really value having this space to express my passion for pokemon with like-minded people, and the society sessions are always the highlight of my week. The committee do an incredible job of hosting fun events and make sure everyone feels included. The committee of Pokemon Society are genuinely incredible people, they are very passionate about their positions as committee and it definitely shows through the events they put on and the effort they put in to make the society fun and welcoming."
"As a member of committee for this society, the amount of help that it's brought me is insane. This is one of the most accepting societies and communities I've been in, and I'm so so happy that my own experience is one that's shared. This group as a whole has greatly impacted my university experience better, enhancing it and making it so much better than it would've been without this society."
"Avery puts in the maximum possible effort to make sure every member enjoys their time during sessions and feels included. He puts in so much effort to make the society events run smoothly and be as enjoyable as possible, and it's evident just how much he cares about the society's success."
"Daisy, as the pokemon society manager has always made anyone feel welcome to the pokemon society, they have also planned many fun and exciting events. Out of society they are a great friend who cares about everyone and makes sure they are happy - Thank you for being a great manager of the pokemon society and a great friend."
"I’m proud to be part of this group as it is a very welcoming group and it’s very friendly atmosphere and this group helped me shape my friends to this day. The Villains event was one of the best events I’ve been apart of while my team at university. It made me collab with so many people I haven’t talked to before and made more connections it also made my creativity flow and was able to create a character around this event which I really enjoyed"
"It’s incredibly inclusive and welcoming. I feel like i can talk to anyone and immediately bond with them over pokemon and create some incredible friendships. Avery is always there for everyone but im able to relate to him so much on a personal level and he has the strongest friendship that would last a lifetime"
"I think being a part of Pokémon Society has helped me so much in regards to finding more likeminded and amazing people to be around. I go to places now and I feel like I always see so many people I know and it really makes you feel less Isolated. I also think it has allowed me to express myself more and brought me more confidence as being in such an environment only makes on feel like they aren't as alone and can be more true to themselves."
"Mirul is a wonderful member of our committee! Mirul has kept us in green in the bank book through the whole year and with the amount of things that we have done this year its honestly so impressive. We don't see the work that Mirul does but I know how important that is. I only hear the other committee members praise him for how good Mirul is with numbers."
"I think Emily Flockhart is awesome!! Emily has the icon of our soc the fat Pikachu plush (with a ribbon). Emily also has been very welcoming to me and I enjoy the fact that she goes around and talk to every one and shows Pikachu to them. Emily has become a great friend to me and I would love to see her win an award.
"I think the Poké Soc committee do a fantastic job. They run one of the biggest gaming societies in the university and they absolutely kill it with each event and in each week. You can tell they all care about the soc and that it's a priority for them. With this being my first and last year as a student I can only thank them for making it such an amazing and wonderful year filled with learning new things such as competitive to making new like minded friends. I could never thank them enough for enhancing University for me. They care a lot about each member enough to always want to check on them when they are absent and also prioritise making sure that everyone is comfortable letting people know when something goes to far or something is making another member uncomfortable. I respect them so much for the care they put into each member."
"Kai is a wonderful and jovial member of the soc. Me and him met on the first day and instantly became good friends with him. Kai did an amazing job for his first time in competitive battling he finished top of the entire rankings of the Villains event finishing with an entire 19 points. Kai has been a great friend and a entertaining character in the soc!!"
"When I first joined the society I was accepted instantly. By the second week of being there, everyone knew my name... it was my discord name but the sentiment still stands. Because of this society, I have a large group of friends that meet and socialise on a consistent basis in a time where I hardly see any of my other friends due to conflicting schedules. Whether it be at society events, hanging out in the discord server, or even outside of society when a group of us went to alton towers, because of Pokemon Society I no longer feel alone."
"Avery puts in the maximum possible effort to make sure every member enjoys their time during sessions and feels included. He puts in so much effort to make the society events run smoothly and be as enjoyable as possible, and it's evident just how much he cares about the society's success."
"Luc is very passionate about his role in the committee and passionate about the society in general. He always makes an effort to greet anyone who walks into the society room, and he is a big reason that the society feels so welcoming. Luc is genuinely a lovely person who cares about the society and its success, and his work as part of the committee is a big contributor to the society's success over the past year."
"Absaar is one of the kindest people I have ever met; he's always willing to help other members if they ever have problems, even if he isn't particularly close with someone. He always listens to what others have to say and he always, ALWAYS has something nice to say about everyone. It is so admirable that he can see so much good in every person and have so many kind words for everyone, too."
