A photograph of Precious Ogbein (full-time officer) smiling, while holding a foam finger, in front of dark green text that reads PRECIOUS: MY UPDATES08/07 - I am excited to share my experiences from my first week as a student officer. It has been a busy yet fulfilling start, with a lot of activities and introductions. The week was packed with meetings where I was introduced to various boards and committees crucial for representing student interests. Each meeting was an opportunity to learn about the different aspects of student governance and the roles and responsibilities involved. The amount of information to absorb was significant. I am in the process of familiarising myself with the numerous names, roles, and functions of the people and departments I will be working with. Despite the steep learning curve, I found the week to be smooth and manageable.

15/07 - My second week in office as a Union officer has come to an end. I have participated in a series of meetings, discussions and more introductions. One of which focused on campaigning on sexual violence and misconduct and educating men on women's safety, which is essential to students, staff of the university as well as residential. Another meeting was on plans to make the welcome week memorable and enjoyable, considering the students' interest and following up with lectures on the teach-out plan for discontinued courses.

22/07 - The 3rd week in office was graduation week and I was there to celebrate with all graduating students. I also had a few meetings where we talked about the student accommodation and how important it is to communicate with students clearly and early enough, irrespective of any situation.

29/07 - Last week was the final ceremony for the graduates of class 2024, which was finished up with the chancellor’s dinner. Also, the SUSV Groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the project was a success. With the plans and efforts I have seen put in, I’m optimistic that it is going to be a project that fosters community building amongst students.

05/08 - It was an amazing experience last week for me to be part of the Lead and Change programme. Meeting with like-minded people as we ventured on varying topics aimed at enhancing students’ university experience. I am excited to bring the insights and inspiration gained from this programme back to the student union for the benefit of all students.

12/08 - Last week, amidst several meetings, we identified issues related to the officers' visibility and interaction with the Stafford campus, and we plan to address these concerns to achieve better results as we take the first step during the Stafford campus welcome week. More inductions for officers focused on student representation and engagement. Additionally, the officers released a statement regarding the ongoing riots, expressing our position and commitment to addressing student concerns and safety.

19/08 - Last week, I worked on more finishing touches on the Welcome Week planning, and additional inductions and training sessions were organised for us. We also made significant progress on our manifesto plans, emphasising increased student engagement in campus and involvement in university decisions. We are excited to launch the new Student News project and Staffs 100 into the university community.

27/08 - This week, I had more inductions and worked on strategies towards achieving manifesto points. We had our first official meeting towards launching the student news project to enable more engagement for students and foster more community building among all students. I also participated in the course monitoring sessions to ensure students are able to maximise their academic potential.
