02/09 - Last week, we visited the Stafford campus to work on joint priorities between HEPS and the SU, focusing on increasing the Students' Union visibility on campus. Our meeting with the student support service team was also very productive, and we agreed to hold monthly meetings to assess the support services, response rates, and service delivery for students.
09/09 - Last week, the Rosh Hashanah event (which is centred on reflection in the Jewish calendar) planning was concluded. We also had logistics planning around the students’ news – (now WHAT’S ON STAFFS??). Plans were made on how to improve students' overall experience at the course committee monitoring for Nursing and Midwifery courses.
16/09 - Last week was dedicated to move-in activities, where I and other officers welcomed students to their university accommodations and discussed how the Students’ Union could engage with them. The course monitoring committee for IOP and IOE had a productive session where we reviewed action plans related to the NSS report to improve the overall student experience at the university. I also had the privilege of participating in an ethical finance training organised by the National Union of Students. We focused on strategies to encourage universities to divest from fossil fuels and invest in more impactful ventures.
23/09 - Last week, Joseph and I collaborated with the entrepreneurship team as part of our manifesto on skills development, workshops, and creating industry opportunities. We engaged with Marc from the careers connect team to explore ways to better support students interested in entrepreneurship through workshops on confidence, branding, and self-employment skills, with a focus on diversity and inclusion. We’re planning to promote these initiatives through union channels and collaborate with the careers team, societies, and the university’s Be Inspired scheme to run networking events and industry talks.
30/09 - Last week was the Welcome Fair across all our campuses, and I was grateful to be a part of it, witnessing tremendous excitement from both new and returning students. To encourage engagement at our Stafford campus, Leah and I made it a priority to be available at the Stafford Welcome Fair, where we had meaningful conversations with students. We also kicked off STAFFS100 recruitment, aiming for a strong relaunch to better engage, represent, and amplify student voices so they can be actioned on by the university. This aligns with my manifesto point on student engagement and representation.
