This week, we’re excited to introduce you to the Cosplay and Craft Society (CCS), a vibrant and creative community for anyone passionate about costumes, crafting, and conventions. Whether you’re a seasoned cosplayer or a complete beginner, CCS is the perfect place to unleash your creativity and connect with others who share your interests.

What is Cosplay?
For those new to the concept, cosplay is the art of dressing up as a character from a work of fiction, such as a comic book, video game, or TV show. But it’s more than just costumes—it’s about bringing characters to life, expressing creativity, and being part of a welcoming community.
About the Cosplay and Craft Society
The Cosplay and Craft Society is your one-stop shop for all things related to cosplay, crafting, and conventions. Whether you’re looking to create your own costumes, learn new crafting skills, or attend conventions with a supportive group, CCS has you covered.
The society is led by a dedicated team of students who are passionate about fostering an inclusive and creative environment. They run weekly sessions every Wednesday at 2 PM in T005 of the Beacon Building, featuring fun and educational PowerPoint presentations to guide members through various crafting techniques and cosplay tips.
CCS takes pride in its commitment to inclusivity and sustainability. Their sessions are held in a fully accessible building, and all PowerPoints are easily accessible on their Discord server for members to review at any time. The society also emphasises sustainable cosplay practices, teaching members how to source materials responsibly and reduce waste.
In addition to their weekly sessions, CCS organises trips to conventions throughout the year, giving members the chance to experience these events in a supportive and fun group setting.
Activities and Events
CCS offers a wide range of activities to help members develop their skills and express their creativity. Some of their regular events include:
Costume and Prop Workshops: Learn how to create costumes, style wigs, and craft props using materials like foam and fabric.
Sustainable Crafting Sessions: Discover how to source eco-friendly materials and repurpose items for your cosplay projects.
Convention Trips: Attend conventions like MCM Birmingham with the society, where you can showcase your cosplay and meet other enthusiasts.
Social Meetups: Dress up as your favourite characters and enjoy fun outings, picnics, or ice cream socials.
Online Events: Participate in gaming and movie nights for a relaxed and safe way to connect with the community.
The society also plans to introduce 3D printing workshops and collaborate with other crafting and costume groups to expand their offerings. If you have ideas for sessions or events, CCS welcomes your suggestions!
