Order! Order! Don’t be incurious! Although it is a LAW Society, they are not all about the Law, and anyone is welcome to join! If you like to discuss current affairs, have opinions on certain things and debate on interesting topics. You will find LAW Society to be a great place to be.

With that said, in their last session, they had a fabulous discussion on AI, which they split into two groups: Pros and Cons. They were given time to research the subjects and get facts to strengthen their arguments. These discussions not only help the LAW students to present their factual arguments in court but can also develop your thought process as a normal individual to become confident in public speaking.

The aim of society is to give everyone a voice; they want people to have the confidence to express their opinions even if they are not the same as others, that doesn't matter. We all have opinions, and everyone should be heard. All they expect is to respect one another, and as long as it is not abusive, derogatory or offensive in any way, you will be heard.

Like said above you don't have to be studying law to be a member, build your networking with them. Who knows where they will all be in the coming years? Having a big network may help you or someone you know in the future. There are no small clicks. Everyone mingles together, and no one is ever left out.

Upcoming plans

They will also have occasional guest speakers coming in for talks, which could benefit people from other subjects.

LAW students can also benefit as they are also trying to arrange visits to the local courts and to speak to staff who work there, as well as holding mooting competitions. Not just that, but they will also be going for a society Christmas meal, and plans are being put in place to bring back the Law Ball, which used to occur before COVID.

They have put in an application to hold our mooting final in the Supreme Court in London. Each year, they have 12 places available and are judged by a Justice of the Supreme Court. This will also include a tour for the group of the Courts before the final starts.

What do members say?

“The law society is a great way to connect with other people and expand your social circle. It’s not always easy making friends on your course, but here, we are all friends.” - Sophie Coxon.

"It's great to have people from different courses and levels interacting together and listening to each other's views and opinions" - Mike Berrisford.
