This week, our Spotlight is shining bright on Staff Mario Kart Society!
The Mario Kart Society is for all Mario Kart players, led by main committee members Jamie Cooper (Manager), Dom Hayes (Communications Officer),
Kian Morgan (Finance Officer) and Brandon Langford (Wellbeing and Inclusion Officer). The society is focused on playing casual games of Mario Kart, from the older game to the newest in the series. If you are a fan of Mario Kart or racing games in general, the Mario Kart Society may be for you!
Mario Kart Society Activities and Events
The Mario Kart Society does casual games of Mario Kart at their weekly casual Mario Kart Fridays, but they also run Mario Kart tournaments such as Time Trial tournaments to allow people to let their competitive side show (with larger tournaments happening each month!)
On top of their casual events and competitions, they also host collaborations with other societies, such as Staffs Smash and the Pokémon Society. They have also participated in charity-based tournaments such as the Charity Movember Tournament run by PlayAid and Gamers VS Depression (where committee members Jamie and Brandon took part) as well as helping fundraise for fellow students, with the society helping some Fashion Students fundraise with an Easter Event by having a stall where people can come and play some Mario Kart.
The committee plans to continue hosting their Casual Sessions, Tournaments and Time Trial Competitions going forward, and on the 20th of March, they will be hosting a BIG Nintendo Collaboration with Smash Society and Pokémon Society to celebrate all things Nintendo (including tournaments with prizes, snacks, casual gaming and console appreciation!).
Why Join Mario Kart Society?
The Mario Kart society provides a great opportunity for members to connect with like-minded individuals to give them a chance to talk about racing games they like or anything specific to Mario Kart (or even just to discuss Nintendo in general!). It’s also a great opportunity for students in general to take a break from the stress of university work with some Mario Kart fun, even if they just want to watch other members compete.
The committee likes to welcome newcomers to Mario Kart and anyone can join no matter how experienced they may be. They love taking part in the events that they run so that members can share their passion for the game. Whether you are a Mario Kart God or have never touched a controller before, the committee aims to ensure everyone has a fun experience!
