Thank you to: Staffs Women In STEM

Student led group | Academic Society

A proud student told us...

"This society provides a safe space for an underrepresented group in STEM subjects. This group has organised fun events like movie nights to educate ourselves about the lack of support women received years ago when pursuing STEM subjects. We have shared career resources and opportunities for our members to get involved with, collaborated with a total of 5 societies who also believe women should have a safe place to thrive. It was lovely to meet women from various different stem subjects and to learn about their interests. As well as hosting events, we also participate in outreach events, internal and external (such as schools, open days and fairs), and spread awareness about the lack women in stem fields and acknowledging our members and society partners within our social media channels. Our goal is to empower and support women and we want to make sure that happens!"

The group has collaborated with a number of societies and one stand out event was "called Women in STEM social which brought together societies such as Engineering Society, Computing Society, Staffs Racing, Forensics and Crime Society. This helped us strengthen our connections with each other as not many academic societies receive the support they deserve. A scavenger hunt was hosted by FACS, and women in stem brought other fun aspects like refreshments and fun interactive activities to get the students talking. It was our first step to make meaningful connections with out fellow academic societies."

Thank you Staffs Women In STEM for making a positive difference for students here at Staffs.
