February has been another busy month for our student groups, packed with industry speaker talks, competitions, gaming tournaments, theatrical rehearsals and social events to name just some of the activities that our committee leaders have coordinated.

Amongst all of these activities, which bring so many benefits to students, our groups also put their efforts into supporting our wider communities and building civic partnerships.

Let’s begin with our African Caribbean Society who have been awarded Student Group Of The Month – February 2025.

How did they earn this coveted title? you ask…

Members of Staffs ACS braved the elements in a very cold, very uncomfortable Bet 365 stadium, to help raise awareness for homelessness and to contribute towards the fundraising efforts of the Big Sleep Out 2025.

The Big Sleep out is an annual charitable initiative which encourages supporters and the wider community to help raise awareness of homelessness within the city and its surrounding areas.

Participants get first-hand experience of what its like to brave the elements overnight as they bed down inside and outside the Franklyn Stand concourse, all whilst raising much-needed funds for local charities with monies going to The Macari Centre and Stoke City Community Trust.

Giving up the warmth of your own bed to spend a night on a cold, hard floor; as is the only option for many homeless people, is both a selfless act and eye opening experience. We’re really proud of our ACS members who generously gave their time to help raise awareness and to support this initiative and the Stoke City Community Trust’s fundraising efforts.

Our special mentions this month go to our Oriental Society

To celebrate Lunar New Year, our Oriental Society have proudly supported community partnerships to help create a themed display at the local Spode museum. Students demonstrated their creativity and community spirit to help bring the Lunar New Year celebration to life in the local area.
