This year, two of our committe members took part in the UKIE Student Game Jam, spending 32 hours creating a working, playable game.

The event challenged students from across the country to develop an original video game with more than 200 students across 56 teams taking part, and 52 games submitted based on this year’s theme ‘contrast’.All games were considered by a panel of industry judges, with teams from University of Staffordshire taking home two of the three prizes on offer.

Scryer’s Shadow, made by BSc (Hons) Computer Gameplay Design and Production Jonathan Scoffin and BSc (Hons) Computer Games Design student Morgan Harris was named the Overall Winner.

"The game is a platformer where you have to stay out of sight of an evil and mysterious giant eye by hopping between shadows! Morgan and I have worked together on a game jam before when we did Global Game Jam in January this year, where we tried to make quite a technically ambitious project. This time, we decided to put more effort into refining and polishing a concept that we felt we could effectively deliver in the short 32-hour window. I'm really proud of what we've been able to make, and it means a lot to hear people saying they enjoy the game! (I'm also very grateful to the lecturers that let us quietly keep working in the corner of C117 whilst they were teaching!)" - Morgan

Massive congratulations to Morgan and Jonathan for the hard work and dedication you've put into this game! If you are interested in taking a closer look at the students' work, you can view this here
