Emergency SMS alert

The University now has in place an emergency messaging system that can be used to alert you of major incidents or guidance to follow should this be needed. Messages will take the form of an SMS (text message) to your phone if this has been correctly registered through the e:Vision portal.

This initiative is designed purely to enhance general safety for our University community, and does not reflect any specific change in the security threat we face. The previous communication sent about this initiative can be found on Beacon here.

To ensure it is working, a test of the system will take place on Monday 27 November 2023 at 12pm (Midday) so it is important that if you do not wish your phone to make an audible alert, such as would normally happen when you receive an SMS, you should switch it to silent for this time.

Can I opt out of receiving these alerts?

As stated before, all staff and students will all be automatically enrolled in the messaging system. Whilst there will be an option to opt out, it is strongly recommended that you remain enrolled and that you ensure that any mobile telephone contact details held for you are kept up to date.

Please be assured that the use of your data for this purpose is strictly controlled in accordance with UK data protection law. However, should you wish to opt out of receiving these emergency messages, please email emergencycomms-optout@staffs.ac.uk

What do I need to do next?

You do not need to do anything further, however if you do not receive a test message via SMS on this date and time, please send an email to emergencycomms-feedback@staffs.ac.uk , that includes your mobile phone number and this will be investigated.

Should you wish to provide any specific feedback on this initiative, have any concerns, or want further information, please also email emergencycomms-feedback@staffs.ac.uk.
