Verkada Takes Over the Staffs Computing Society!

On Wednesday, 23rd October, the Staffs Computing Society welcomed Verkada, a  cloud-based security solutions company, for a highly anticipated takeover event. With a growing emphasis on employability, the society is committed to connecting students with potential employers to boost opportunities for placements, internships and graduate roles.

This initiative aligns perfectly with the University of Staffordshire's hands-on approach, ensuring students acquire the practical skills that today’s employers are seeking.

The event was led by Verkada’s recruiter, Carly Fong, along with two team members, who gave an engaging and insightful presentation. They shared the company’s inspiring journey from its startup roots to becoming a key player in the security industry today. Attendees were given a live demonstration of Verkada’s cutting-edge products by their engineer, showcasing the innovative technology driving their success.

Beyond the technical showcase, the team provided valuable insights into Verkada’s hiring process, workplace culture and the various benefits available to employees, including exciting work perks and special initiatives. They highlighted programs such as Women in Engineering and Pride, reinforcing their commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The session concluded with a lively Q&A, where students had the chance to ask questions on topics ranging from career progression and relocation benefits to the all-important salary expectations. And yes—there were plenty of free goodies, including stickers and pens!

For students interested in pursuing opportunities with Verkada, you can check out their applications which have now opened for their placement and graduate roles, both offering visa sponsorship for international students.

This event marked another successful step towards enhancing student employability at Staffs and connecting future tech talent with industry leaders. Thank you to the Verkada team for travelling to Stoke-On-Trent to do it and a shoutout to Chris Hawkins for supporting the Society throughout this!

Gian-Luca Wallace (Lvl 5, Computer Science BSc) - "The event was an enjoyable and introspective view into Verkada's company ethos their strong morals and duty toward their goals and passions as a business, Carly, Simon and Lilia we're amazing to both listen and talk to with very vocal and dynamic personalities, their differences in culture, and strong direction have helped them reach the position they are in and all come across as incredibly talented individuals.  I'll definitely be pursuing their placement programs after reviewing their feedback, advice and informational teaching during the talk, I would highly recommend attending future events."
