We are looking for volunteers to help run support groups, we've already set up a group that meets up in the Dudson Centre in Hanley, we're setting up a support group in Stafford, and are looking for a venue. While also looking to set up a group in Tamworth, Lichfield and Burton.
Project 93 provides support, advice and education around sexuality, gender and HIV within Staffordshire. Offering counselling, support groups and testing, along with working beside local businesses, schools, prisons and charities.
The Support Group Volunteer role involves:
- Promoting the group.
- Setting the room up, ready for the group.
- Creating a safe space where everyone feels welcome.
- Helping group members talk to eachother and form friendships.
- Running simple activities such as craft or discussions.
- Talking to group members if they are struggling/upset, including following Project 93's safeguarding procedures.
- Ensuring the room is left as you've found it.
At first groups will just be for LGBTQ+ people and allies aged 18 and above. However, if the group is successful we may also look into setting up an 11-18 group. In that case, volunteers will be able to choose wether they also want to volunteer with the young people's group or not.
Time commitment for the role is around 2 hours a week, including preparation and the sessions.
Groups run once a week either in the day, evening or weekend, subject to volunteer and venue availability.
