To kick off Volunteering Week, we’ll be addressing how you can get as much out of a few hours a week/month of volunteering!

Volunteering isn’t a set-in-stone commitment, with a busy work-life, it can be daunting to consider giving up many more hours to volunteer, but it doesn’t have to be that way for you!

Seasonal Volunteering

Some opportunities (One example that we’ve advertised being for Cancer Research UK ) are available on a seasonal basis, this means you can dedicate a few hours to an opportunity in a season, instead of for certain hours in a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly capacity.

Flexible Opportunities

Some opportunities allow for travel expenses (if commuting is a concern) and allow for discussions and reviews for time commitments, after all, you’re there to help! Some opportunities also focus primarily on events and other gatherings, so hosting the occasional event for a charity or organisation still helps, while not eating too much of your free time for the rest of the month or year.

Causes that matter to you

It is important to find causes you are personally invested in and willing to help with, as it means those few hours spent helping being the most fulfilling and impactful for you. It will feel a lot more fulfilling than spending the same amount of time for a cause you don’t really follow.

Communication with opportunities

While volunteering opportunities are very specific, some charities are very open to be communicated with about how you can help surrounding your time commitments, most if not all will happily accept help even if it’s not directly advertised as a role.
