illegal dumping

Since 2023, Stoke-on-Trent City Council has been taking a zero-tolerance stance on illegal dumping in our towns.

Since then, we have cleared over 3400 illegal dumping incidents.

Every one of us has the responsibility to dispose of household waste legally. From bulky waste, to general household waste, there a service to ensure none of this waste makes it onto our greenspaces or our streets.

We have clear guidance on what can go in the recycling bin and what can go in the general waste bin.

Any items left outside of the property, in alleyways and greenspaces will be treated as illegal dumping, and a fixed penalty notice will be issued.

It is the landlord's responsibility to ensure waste has been removed from the property ahead of new tenants moving in, if your landlord has failed to do this, please report them here: environmental.crime@stoke.gov.uk

We have recently secured funding from DEFRA of £46,000. A portion of the funding will pay for eight new mobile CCTV cameras, to help us target hotspot areas.

Anyone caught dumping waste illegally will face a fixed penalty notice fine of up to £1000.

Please help us to fight back against illegal dumping and get every resident to Love their Street.
